Community Development

“Service to humanity is the best work of life”
– The Jaycee Creed

The LI Jaycees are a dynamic organization with members committed to making Long Island a better place to live, work, and play. LIJC members take on the challenges around them through local development initiatives. These tailored projects require members to use strategic planning and critical planning to craft creative solutions to the problems of their communities.

Community Development Projects Include:

  • Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund (BMCF) – The Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund (BMCF) supports patients ages 18-40 as they undergo cancer treatment. Typical grants measure under $600 and include co-payments, rent and mortgage, transportation, car insurance, repairs, and groceries. Click Here For More Information About the Fund
  • Chili Cook-Off – Each year the LI Jaycees host a chili cook-off to raise money for a pre-determined charity.
  • Freedom Ride – The LI Jaycees volunteer at this motorcycle cavalcade from Nassau Coliseum to the World Trade Center site and back. Money raised from the event is donated to Support our Troops.
  • Housing Committee – Concerned about the housing crisis for young people on Long Island, the LIJC formed it’s housing committee in 2008. The committee meets regularly, has done community outreach, and planned various educational seminars.
  • Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk – Jaycees get involved with various other fundraising efforts throughout the year.
